About
Thoughtful design for New Zealand homes
Pauline McPherson Interior Design is an Auckland practice working across residential interiors, from single rooms to full renovations, new builds, and multi-unit development.
The work is grounded in something we see over and over again. Most people know what they like when they see it, but find it genuinely difficult to explain what their style actually is, or how to pull it together into something that works. That is where we come in.
We are not decorators. The practice is fully qualified across all aspects of residential interior design, including spatial planning, technical drafting, kitchens, bathrooms, and complete remodels. That matters when you are making significant decisions about your home and you need someone who understands the whole picture, not just the finishing touches.

Our philosophy
We do not believe in decorating to impress other people. We believe in designing homes that reflect the people who live in them. A home should feel like a quiet exhale when you walk through the door, not a performance.
We also believe that doing something once and doing it well is almost always better than cutting corners and having to redo it. Our job is to help you get it right the first time, save money where saving makes sense, and invest where it genuinely matters.
Every home we work on is different, because every client is different. We like that uniqueness. It is the whole point.
How we work
We start with the brief
We begin by understanding what you are trying to achieve, what is working, what is not, and where the real constraints sit. This is where we separate what you need from what you want.
We develop the direction
Concepts, spatial planning, and the material palette. We review together and refine, so the home takes shape on paper before anyone commits money to it.
We stay through delivery
Drawings, schedules, specification, supplier coordination and site visits. We stay involved so that the decisions made on paper survive contact with the build.
Experience
Pauline qualified with a Diploma in Interior Design from the Auckland School of Interior Design and established the practice in the same year.
Her professional background includes work alongside Graham Crust Architects on projects across New Zealand, Australia, Asia and the Middle East, and with Ctrl Space, Lovelace and Co (now the Wonder Group), and Trinity Interior Design. Those years working with highly skilled teams shape the way every project is approached today.
What we believe
- Good design solves problems rather than showing off.
- The best homes feel like the people who live in them.
- Being brave with a decision is often what makes a home memorable.
- A good supplier stands behind their work, and that is worth paying for.
- The right order of work saves more money than almost any other decision.
